Bird Street Gallery

About the Gallery

The Bird Street Gallery, located at the Nelson Mandela University’s Bird Street Campus in Port Elizabeth, is hosted within the school of Music, Art and Design (SoMAD), and incorporates the oldest school of visual arts in the country. Regular exhibitions are held at the gallery including the annual showcasing of the graduate and postgraduate student work across the disciplines of art and design. Panel discussions and curated shows cover a diverse range of visually provocative narratives and themes such as decoloniality, protest photography, gender and identity, as well as applied design and fine art showcasing.
